Sheet count is purchase area divided by the face area of the exact sheet selected, rounded upward. A familiar product name is not enough: copy width and length from the product listing or label.
Treat presets as exact dimensions
A 4 × 8 ft sheet has exactly 32 ft² of face area. A 1200 × 2400 mm sheet has 2.88 m². These values are close for similar jobs but are not identical, so DrywallCalc normalizes each exact dimension before division. The calculator never substitutes one preset for another according to locale. Select the product you can actually buy, or use custom dimensions when the listing differs.
Round only the final sheet count
First total gross area. Next multiply it by 100 plus your whole waste percentage and divide by 100. Then divide that purchase area by exact sheet area. The quotient may be fractional because shops do not sell a fraction of a sheet for this estimate; therefore only that final count uses ceiling. Intermediate areas stay rational, so a decimal entered as text is not changed by binary floating-point representation.
Sheet area is not a cutting layout
Larger sheets may reduce the area-based count, but handling, transport, joints, orientation and room shape affect a real installation. DrywallCalc does not recommend a sheet type or thickness, arrange seams, place fasteners or reuse offcuts. It only shows what the stated formula produces. Treat the result as a transparent material estimate to review against drawings, supplier information and a qualified installer when the project requires one.
